What to Expect During a Commercial Wall Wrap Installation

Most clients have never watched a wall wrap go up. They know what the finished wall should look like, but not what happens between signing the proof and the walkthrough. This is the whole process, from the first site visit to the care instructions we leave behind, so you know what to prepare and what to expect on install day.

Before Install Day

Site survey and measurements

We measure the wall ourselves. Drawings are a starting point, but walls are rarely square, ceilings are rarely level, and outlets, thermostats, fire strobes, and trim all land where the artwork has to work around them. The survey also tells us how we will get material and a crew into the space, whether we need a lift or a scaffold, and where we can stage panels.

Wall condition

This is the step that decides whether the wrap succeeds. We check texture, paint type, paint age, repairs, and moisture. New paint needs to cure before vinyl goes on, typically two to four weeks depending on the product, and Colorado's dry air helps but does not eliminate that. Washable and scrubbable paints with stain-resistant additives can reject adhesive. If anything looks marginal, we apply a test patch and come back to check it. Our wall prep guide covers what we look for.

Proof at scale

You will approve a proof that shows the artwork on the actual wall dimensions, including where seams will fall and how the design lands around outlets and corners. Text that looks fine on a screen can end up split by a light switch, and this is the moment to move it. Once the proof is approved, we print.

Print and lamination

Panels are printed on wall-specific vinyl, laminated for protection, and trimmed with overlap for the seams. Allow two to five business days. Large murals are printed in numbered panels so they go up in order.

Scheduling

Wall wraps are quiet work. We install during business hours when the space allows it, and after hours or on weekends when it does not. Restaurants, showrooms, and busy lobbies are usually evening installs so the wall is finished when the doors open.

On Install Day

Here is what actually happens in the room.

  1. Walk the wall. We confirm nothing has changed since the survey: no new furniture, no fresh paint touch-ups, no new holes.
  2. Clear the space. We need roughly six feet of clear floor in front of the wall. If your team can move furniture ahead of time, the install starts faster. We remove outlet covers, switch plates, and anything else mounted on the wall.
  3. Clean the surface. The wall is wiped down to remove dust, hand oils, and cleaning residue. On a construction site, we do this last, after the other trades are out.
  4. Lay out the panels. A laser level sets the reference lines. Every panel is positioned against those lines, not against the ceiling or the floor, because neither is reliably level.
  5. Apply, squeegee, and heat. Panels go on in sequence, squeegeed from the center out to drive out air, with heat at inside corners and around obstacles so the vinyl conforms and stays put.
  6. Trim. Vinyl is trimmed around outlets, trim, ceiling lines, and adjoining walls. Clean trim lines are what separate a professional wrap from a wallpaper job.
  7. Post-heat and inspect. Edges and seams get a final pass of heat, which sets the adhesive. We check every seam and edge before we call it done.

How Long It Takes

ProjectTypical time on site
Single accent wall, up to about 10 by 20 feetHalf a day
Large lobby wall or multi-panel muralOne full day
Full room wrap including ceilingOne to two days, often split across evenings
Corridor or multi-wall office programTwo to four days depending on the wall count

Textured walls, tight access, and heavy obstacle counts add time. We give you a firm window at the survey.

After the Install

  • Leave it alone for 72 hours. Adhesive continues to bond after installation. No washing, no tape, no mounting anything through the vinyl during that window.
  • Small bubbles can appear and disappear. Tiny air pockets sometimes show up in the first days and typically flatten as the film settles. Anything larger than a fingertip, call us.
  • Cleaning. A soft cloth with mild soap and water. No abrasive pads, no solvent cleaners, no pressure washing.
  • Seams and texture. Seams on a well-installed wrap are hard to find, but on close inspection they exist, and wall texture will telegraph slightly through the film. Both are normal, and we show you where the seams are at the walkthrough.
  • Damage later. If a panel is gouged or scuffed, we reprint and replace that panel. Keep the original files with your brand assets so a replacement is a quick job.

What Can Go Wrong, and How We Handle It

The problems we see are almost always surface problems: paint that was not cured, drywall that was never primed, texture heavier than the photos suggested, or dust from other trades still settling on a job site. Each of those is caught at the survey or the test patch, and the fix is scheduling, not rescue work on install day. The one thing we cannot fix on site is artwork that was approved at the wrong size, which is why we proof at scale and ask you to look at it carefully.

What We Need From You

  • Artwork in vector format, or a raster file at full size at 100 to 150 pixels per inch.
  • Access to the wall for the survey and a contact who can answer questions about the space.
  • Confirmation of the paint date if the wall was recently painted.
  • The furniture moved, or permission for us to move it.
  • After-hours access arrangements, including alarm and parking details, if we are installing outside business hours.

Wall wraps are one of the fastest, cleanest upgrades you can make to a commercial interior, and a good install is uneventful by design. If you have a wall in mind, send us a photo and the dimensions and we will tell you how we would approach it.
